WE BOUGHT A HOUSE IN MAINE!

After nearly 20 years of renting on the island of Vinalhaven, we managed to buy our own place in summer 2025. This has been a longtime dream and we had a fantastic August starting to get the place set up!

Our intention is to share the house with family and friends – and to use it as a space where artists (including ourselves!) can come and work – or just hike and swim!

ABOUT THE HOUSE

‘The house, which sits on 2.6 acres of beautiful woodland, is a newly constructed (2013), two/three bedroom, one bathroom – with a huge open space for an art studio. There is also a shed and a cute cabin in the woods.

Not a direct water view (because who can afford it – and pay water view taxes!). But it is minutes from beautiful beaches and coves – and the town’s two swimming quarries.

Fully stocked kitchen with lots of cabinets – we plan to white wash or paint someday – they are beautiful but its a lot of wood!

Living room in progress! More art will be up on the walls.  We currently have a beautiful sunprint by Shaun and a watercolor by 90+ year old summer resident Ester Garcia Eder.

The Blue room with a gigantic closet!  It is bigger than many NYC bedrooms…still working on this room too – more art, dressers…

The main living area is on the upper floor – you always feel that you are in a tree house.

The Green room – second  bedroom upstairs.

Large bathroom – although hard to tell in this picture – I was rushing around taking these as we were packing up to leave!

The lower level – eventually going to be a work space – but didn’t get that far this summer.

The space is huge – you could rehearse a show in here, teach Yoga or dance.

Side room with sliding door – for a painting/drawing studio or a third bedroom.

Looking out – surrounded by trees and nature…

Sweet cabin in the woods – this  is from fall when all the ferns were brown – normally they are a cheery green.

ABOUT VINALHAVEN

VINALHAVEN is the largest offshore island in Maine and home to one of the biggest lobstering communities.  It is reachable via car ferry from Rockland  – a beautiful 1hr 15 minute  trip – and there are also flights from Owls Head.

Vinalhaven is a granite island and stone from the local quarries can be found in NYC in the Brooklyn Bridge, St. Johns Cathedral and in old paving stones.  The quarries are now huge mineral water swimming pools – and the town maintains two for public use. There are also a variety of hiking trails – overseen by the Vinalhaven Land Trust– many end at incredible coves where you can swim in the exhilarating cold sea!

Booths Quarry – mineral water swimming and beautiful granite ledges.

The Basin – a nearly enclosed salt water inlet – great for swimming, kayaking and seal watching!
